The theme of Canoe Journey 2023 Paddle to Muckleshoot was "Honoring Our Warriors Past and Present." Muckleshoot Oral Historian Warren King George explains what that means to the Muckleshoot Tribe, and how this year's Canoe Journey helps us connect with our ancestors who fought and sacrificed for what we have today. The Canoe journey is a way to communicate with our ancestors.

"It provides a vehicle for how our next generation can make a connection to history — to the rich history of our people.”

We also honor those who carry on today in defending our status as Sovereign Nations so that we may continue to practice our culture, beliefs, and our way of life as our ancestors intended.
